What is your name, age, major and hometown?
Travis Cutbirth, 21, Outdoor Recreation and Conroe, Tx
What drew you to Woodway?
I originally came to Woodway my freshman year about midway through my first semester. I had been church searching during that time, and Zac Condie invited me to come to Woodway with him one Sunday. At Woodway, I felt welcomed from the start and really enjoyed the worship. Actually, I didn’t really enjoy Criner’s preaching until second semester freshmen year, but that was probably because he made a joke about being an outdoor recreation major. I was still unsure that Woodway was my church home, but then I went to the Harvest Dinner and absolutely fell in love with Woodway. I tell people that the Harvest Dinner is the reason why I come to Woodway. I have stayed at Woodway because of the community I have found through home groups, and the ability to serve the Waco community through ICM.
What’s your favorite book? Why?
My favorite book is probably In a Pit with Lion on a Snowy Day by Mark Batterson. I am not good at doing favorites since I always say what I last experienced. However, In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day is not the last book I read so it could possibly be my favorite. I enjoyed it because it talks about “chasing lions” which comes from 2 Samuel 23:20-21 where Benaiah chased a lion into a snowy pit and killed it. In the book, Batters writes that everything in your life has happened for a reason and how that sets you up for your future. God will put trials in front of you, but He will always give you a way out if you trust in Him.
What is something cool that God has done in your life?
A cool thing that God has done in my life is bringing to work at Camp Bahamas the past two summers. My sophomore year in home group it was like September and we were taking prayer requests. For some reason, I asked for prayer for my summer plans even though it was only September. Marissa Hostin was in my small group and that night told me about Camp Bahamas where she worked the past couple of summers. I thought it was cool, but didn’t really pursue it. Then in January it looked like that I had an opportunity to be an intern for a church’s youth group for the summer and was really looking like I was going to work for the church. However, in May during a dead day the church called me and let me know that they did not have any money to pay me for the summer. Then, when walking back to Martin Hall where I was a CL I ran into Marissa who asked me if I applied to work for Camp Bahamas. This was only the second time she talked about it, and I haven’t even thought about since September. It was definitely a God thing that she mentioned it especially right after “my” summer plans just got cancelled on me.
Where do you see God taking you in life?
I see God taking me to some type of recreation ministry after getting some training from a discipleship school or seminary. I do not exactly where or what I will exactly be doing, but I know that God does and am excited to see what He is going to do in my life.
