“My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.” – 1 John 2:1-2
What an encouragement. When we sin, we have Jesus Christ the righteous defending the cause of believers. He is pleading the propitiation before the Father. He is our Advocate, our Mediator (1 Timothy 2:5) and our Intercessor (Romans 8:34). He is a friend who comes alongside and speaks up for us. And all the more, he is pleading this to the Father who deeply loves us (1 John 3:1). We have a perfect High Priest pleading our case before a loving, gracious and merciful Father. If you are God’s child, Christ testifies that His blood covers you and that He was the sacrifice that bears God’s wrath and turns it favor. What an amazing thought.
So when we sin we have a hope. And not a hope in our excuses, good works and continual promises to do better. Those will always fall short. But Christ is our Advocate.
“so when we sin we have a hope. And not a hope in our excuses, good works and continual promises to do better.” Talk about a back handed encouragement! Full of both conviction and hope. Thanks for the Word
