William Minnie is spending his summer in Honduras, here’s what he had to say:
This year I am blessed to have an opportunity to visit Honduras with a group from my College called Engineers With a Mission. It is an organization that uses engineering to help people in the world based on the needs that they have and using the most appropriate technology.
My trip to Honduras began today and right now I am sitting on a patio on the beach next to the Honduran mountains. They’re pretty awesome; I love the Lord’s creations. This trips main focus is to help support an orphanage that is being built in a town called El Progresso, our goal is to help support them using engineering and by helping them we are helping the fatherless which is something the Lord calls the church to do. So this is a great opportunity, and even though we won’t see a lot of the results of our work, we are helping a greater cause.
The work we will be doing for the orphanage is building a small hydro-electric generator fed from a river relatively close to the property. Ideally it should produce about 3 kW of electricity which is enough to power some big spotlights and a small water pump to circulate water in tilapia ponds. The owner wants to make the orphanage a self-sustaining place, so being able to help with that is really great. The vision he has for this place is really neat, and I am glad to be able to support him. His vision is to not just create a place to house orphans, but he also wants to make it be a place where he trains these boys and girls to become men and women so that they can go out and have an impact on their country.
William will be posting more frequently, about the progress him and his team are making, on his own blog. Please follow him at: http://thewanderingsofwilliam.wordpress.com/
